If you have been sexually assaulted:

Within the last 72 hours (three days):

  1. Are you in a safe place?
    If not, call 911.

  2. Immediately After the Assault, Do NOT. . .     

Shower or bathe Douche  Urinate or defecate 
Change clothes Straighten up or touch anything at the scene Eat or drink anything
  Brush your teeth or gargle  

Immediately following the assault, victims may feel a need to clean up before seeing anyone. It is important not to change the condition of the crime scene or the victim's physical condition, in the interest of preserving evidence.

 If you are in a safe place, call your local police department or go to a local hospital, or call The Crisis Center (432) 333-2527.

If you were sexually assaulted MORE than 72 hours (three days) ago:

  1. Contact the police station in the jurisdiction where the assault occurred.

  2. Tell the police what happened. They can set up an appointment for you to come in and make an official statement.

If you are currently considering suicide, these are some options to consider:

  • Call The Crisis Center at (432) 333-2527 to talk with someone who cares.
  • Call 1-800- SUICIDE in the U.S.
  • Check yourself into the emergency room (there are options for those without insurance).
  • Talk to a friend, family member, or co- worker who can help find you immediate help.

Remember, suicidal feelings result when pain exceeds coping resources…but there ARE other ways to cope with the pain.
